Independence Day 2019

It’s hard to believe that it is July already. Summer just got here, but it seems like it is slipping away so quickly. Before we know it, summer will be gone, it will be fall, and we’ll be slipping into winter. After that comes the new year! Sigh.

Tomorrow is a big day here in the U.S. It is our Independence Day celebration. What are your plans for Independence Day? Growing up it meant a block party! There were five houses on our street. In the evening people would begin to gather. We had all kinds of homemade treats to sample. The most exciting treat was always the homemade ice cream. There was often a strawberry sauce to put over it if desired. There was always homemade hot fudge sauce. Once we had our fill of ice cream, cake, brownies, and fudge sauce it was time for the fireworks. Most of the time the weather cooperated. I can remember times that it was so cold that we were sitting out in the yard in our sleeping bags.

Times have certainly changed. We’re all much older now. Some have passed away, others have moved away. None of us have the metabolism or the stomach to eat pounds of sugar in one sitting.

Tomorrow I’ll start my day with a 4-mile race that goes to benefit a local hospital. This is the third time I’ve done this run. It’s a small race in a small town and lots of fun. Afterwards, I’ll have my BLE muffins for breakfast. They’re really good, but nothing compares to homemade ice cream and Mom’s hot fudge sauce! (Hot fudge sauce on a blueberry muffin? Now you’re talking!)

Later, we’ll get out our copy of the Declaration of Independence and give it a read. It’s a nice reminder once a year. I often do it in the car–it’s easy to hold everyone’s attention there.

Freedom is a valuable thing. We’ve had so much of it, that we often take it for granted. We have reaped a bountiful harvest yet are not cautiously storing up for the famine around the corner. We don’t even recognize when our freedom is slowly being taken away. Our founding fathers understood the value of freedom and what it was like to live without it. They and their families were willing to give up everything to guarantee that you and I would have the luxury of living in freedom. Let’s honor them, as we should, on this carefree day.

Physical freedom is a great thing. Let’s not forget where the most important freedom, spiritual freedom, comes from.

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. John 8:36

Lee’s Birdwatching Adventures has a nice Independence Day post. Hop on over there and check it out!

Why Does Common Core Require Teaching Islam? ⋆ The Constitution

If this won’t convince you to homeschool, I don’t know what will.

However, Common Core really originated from the Connect All Schools program, which is part of the “One World Education” initiative orchestrated by Qatar Foundation International (QFI). The director of QFI’s Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics is Tariq Ramadan, grandson of Hassan al-Banna who was the founder of The Muslim Brotherhood.

What Does “Natural” Really Mean?

Last week I was in my local Sam’s store when I came across a couple of young ladies giving out samples. Actually, they saw me and asked me to come over and try their wares. Their wares were mini frozen pizzas of different flavors that you could heat up for just a few minutes in the oven or just a few seconds in the microwave oven. These were being pushed as an “all natural,” healthy snack to feed your family.

When I heard the words “all natural” I almost burst out laughing. I can think of all kinds of “all natural” things that aren’t necessarily good for me and that I don’t want to put in my mouth.

The truth is that the FDA has not come up with a definition of the word “natural.” When it comes to our food, manufacturers can put “natural” on their box, and it can mean just about anything.  Don’t be fooled.

Obamacare deadbeats: Some don’t pay their first premiums

Just cause they’ve signed up for Obamacare doesn’t mean they’re covered.

Around one in five people who picked health insurance policies on the state and federal exchanges last year haven’t paid their first month’s premiums, according to insurers polled by CNNMoney. These folks will likely see their policy selection canceled and they’ll be left uninsured.

via Obamacare deadbeats: Some don’t pay their first premiums – Jan. 30, 2014.

One in five (that’s 20%) of those that successfully signed up for Obamacare have not paid their premiums.  That means their policies will likely be canceled.  It was probably too much of a shock to those people once they got the bill and found out it wasn’t free.

Does anyone know of someone that has actually used their Obamacare and received benefits from it?  I would like to hear of any experiences–successful or otherwise.

Meanwhile, the White House is using the NCAA March Madness to push Obamacare on the younger generation.

Students Sign Petition to Execute All Legal Gun Owners

Mark Dice went to a college campus asking students to sign a petition repealing the Second Amendment and banning all guns except for military and police.  Mark made such comments as,

“We just want to make sure we disarm the citizens. We can trust the government to be the only ones with guns.”

“It’s just a simple repeal of the Second Amendment and we’ll be terminating and executing all of the gun owners.”

“These peasants don’t need guns.”

“We need to take these gun owners and put them into FEMA concentration camps to keep everybody safe.”

“If they like their guns so much, let’s just feed the gun owners some of their own lead.”

while the students blindly agreed.  Here’s the video:
