People Surround Themselves with Like People

The truth is you can tell a lot about someone by where they go to church and who they associate themselves with.  No one is going to sit in a pew for 20 years and not know what is being said from the pulpit.  No one is going to sit in church Sunday after Sunday and listen to someone who they don’t agree with or at least believe is speaking the truth.

And, as far as associations/friends go, people surround themselves with others that share the same values that they do.  We want people who will encourage us when we’re doing the right thing and rebuke us when needed.  For someone to do that, they must have the same beliefs and values that we do.

Whether we want to believe it or not, our friends and peers do influence us.  Ever heard of “peer pressure?”  Not everyone caves to peer pressure, but how many young children try their first cigarette, drugs, alcohol, etc., every day because they caved?  You don’t have to be a child to cave to peer pressure, adults do it too.

I know David Burge is being sarcastic in this tweet.  But, there seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding President Obama’s past from his birth to his childhood to his social security number and even his college transcript.  If Obama’s past is going to be kept hidden from the general public, then we have to look at his friends and associates to give us an idea of what morals and values he may or may not have.
